‘Stranger Things’ Teases a Lot of Action for Its Final Season

Earlier today, Netflix released a featurette for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things. In it, its actors promise fans that the upcoming season will be the most action-packed yet and conclude on a satisfying note, marking the end of one of the streaming platform’s most popular television shows.

Although the trailer didn’t reveal much about what fans can expect from the upcoming season, as it only included new footage in the final 30 seconds of the polished behind-the-scenes featurette, it did remind viewers of why they love the show and its characters, as well as “the magic of childhood.†The trailer begins with a montage that revisits the humble beginnings of Stranger Things, showcasing many of its young actors, who were just kids at the time. It’s amusing to see them now as adults—some are married or can grow facial hair—which highlights just how long the show has been on the air. However, Netflix chose to capitalize on this nostalgia by tapping into a sense of sentimentality, reminding fans of the show’s blockbuster debut.

Laden in interwoven moments from past seasons, David Harbour—an actor who is very ready for the show to be over—spoke highly of the show’s pilot episode being pure, and Ryder said the best gift the show gave her was watching stars Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, and Sadie Sink grow up over the years. In a rather unintentionally funny moment, the lighting in the featurette made actor Charlie Heaton look extremely tired as he remarked, “We’ve been doing it for such a long time.†This sentiment is likely shared by fans, especially with the show’s recent batch of releases extending the series and none of its core characters dying over the years. However, the core message of the featurette highlights how the cast has become like a family over the years. By watching their bond grow stronger, it’s hoped that viewers will feel a connection and continue to support the series as it moves towards its conclusion.

All that being said, the last couple of seconds, while bereft of anything a normal viewer can string together to suss out what the fifth season of Stranger Things will entail, with a demogorgon chasing the visibly adult kids, the featurette does promise a big finale with beefed-up action and visual effects. Perhaps Millie Bobby Brown put it best:

“It’s more of an adventure and more of a mission, which I really like,†Bobby Brown said. “Everybody is really put into the thick of it. No one is sitting back on a walkie-talkie. Everyone is full throttle, going for it.â€

Maya Hawke and Wolfhart echoed Bobby Brown’s sentiment, saying Stranger Things‘ final season is raising the stakes as its found family fights to the bone, knowing there’s a high chance they might not eke out a victory.

“We’ve come full circle. The fans will be truly satisfied with the ending,†McLaughlin said, closing out the featurette.

Hopefully, Stranger Things 5 will live up to its promise to send its characters off on a high note when the series premieres on Netflix, with its three volumes releasing on November 26, December 25, and the finale on December 31.
