If We Can’t Get a Ben Solo Movie, Can We at Least Get His Action Figure?

Fans who expressed rage this week about the scrapping of a potential Ben Solo Star Wars movie starring Adam Driver and directed by Steven Soderbergh can get in line. For years, other fans—and by other fans I mean me—have been hoping to see Ben Solo return in another form, and we too have been denied. I’m talking, of course, about the toy shelf.

Star Wars is famous for making toys of everyone and everything. Seemingly, every character that appears on screen for a second has probably had an action figure made of them. You can get all the creatures from the Mos Eisley Cantina, a surprising amount of podracers, and more Stormtrooper variants than you even knew existed. But when it comes to major characters in the Sequel Trilogy, those have largely been absent. Characters such as Ben Solo.

To date, Hasbro, which is primarily in charge of making action figures for Star Wars, has yet to make a single Ben Solo toy. Not in the Vintage Collection. Not in the Black Series. Nothing. A Funko Pop exists, which you can see above, but it’s not the same. The son of Solo deserves to stand on the shelf next to his family and friends. And yet, he does not.

We don’t know specifically why that is, but it speaks to a larger issue. Hasbro’s Black Series hasn’t released any new figures from the Sequel Trilogy since 2021 (a Dark Rey figure from The Rise of Skywalker; in 2022, it also reissued Force Awakens Han Solo). In the Vintage Collection, Hasbro released a Finn from The Force Awakens in 2024, which is great, but he’s the second lead of that movie and didn’t get an updated figure in the collection until almost 10 years after it initially released. (Of course, he had a main line basic figure from the movie when it came out too, but even those kind of went away by the third movie, outside of the 5-inch “Galaxy of Adventure†basic figures released as part of the initial wave of merchandise for Rise in 2019.)

So many characters from specifically The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker never got the proper treatment. But you’d think Ben Solo is one of the more obvious and easy ones. There are already tons of Kylo Ren figures. Take those head sculpts, put them on a simpler body, change the lightsaber color, and boom. Ben Solo.

Why has Hasbro forsaken the Sequel Trilogy in its toys? We don’t know. Surely there is some market research that shows collectors aren’t as excited about those characters as older ones. And yes, those movies, more than the others, have their detractors. But this is Star Wars. If you’re going to make action figures, give us figures who inspire action. Figures with a grand legacy in Star Wars. Figures like the son of Princess Leia and Han Solo, who trained with his uncle Luke Skywalker, turned to the Dark Side in the footsteps of his uncle Darth Vader, and was in a dyad with the granddaughter of Palpatine. Characters like Ben Solo. You don’t even need Steven Soderbergh.
