Fortnite’s new “Welcome to Springfield” event is bringing in The Simpsons, but this latest crossover goes beyond Epic Games’ online shooter.
For those who want to watch Fox’s longtime animated family rather than play as them, there’s a four-part series of animated shorts releasing on Disney Plus. The first, “Armageddon D’oh,” released just yesterday, while the next three will release on November 10 (“Sugar High,”) November 17 (“Multiplidiocy”), and November 24 (“The Incredible Bulk”). These shorts will “highlight new gameplay” featured in the event, which is expected to last to the end of November.
Fortnite players can get skins or items based on The Simpsons by completing the latest battle pass, and duke it out in the 80-player Springfield Island Epic’s billed as a “back-to-basics experience” from the show’s creative team. There’s also Rocket League, whose Challenge rewards include a skin based on the family’s classic sedan and other cosmetics like a Blinky topper and a “Homer’s Hedges” player banner. Unlike the month-long Fortnite’s “Springfield” event, the Rocket League Challenges end in two weeks on November 17.
This crossover makes perfect sense given Disney’s big investment into Epic last year, and helps prepare players for something potentially bigger to hit in 2027. By then, there’ll be a second movie on the horizon, and whether a big in-game event or playing the first movie in the game itself, Fortnite will help get even more eyes on The Simpsons—not that it’s needed that much help, given how long it’s endured.
