The Official ‘Star Wars’ Magazine Is Coming to an End After Over 30 Years

Star Wars is on the cusp of celebrating some key anniversaries in the next couple of years, but one staple of the past three decades won’t be around to see them: Star Wars Insider, the franchise’s official print magazine, will come to a final end early next year.

Lucasfilm confirmed the news today, explaining that Insider will wrap up its print run with issue #237, set to launch in early 2026. The magazine’s 235th issue, a celebration of The Force Awakens‘ 10th anniversary, is set to release in December.

“Insider has been a big part of my Star Wars experience for a very long time, both as a fan and professionally,†Insider editor Christopher Cooper said in a statement. “It’s been an honor to explore the galaxy far, far away with our readers during my eight-year tenure. But publishing has changed immeasurably since the Lucasfilm Fan Clubmagazine, and we live in an increasingly digital age, which sadly means that this chapter in Star Wars Insider’s history is coming to an end.â€

Insider’s origins began with the Lucasfilm Fan Club magazine in 1987, itself a continuation of the earlier Official Star Wars Fan Club newsletter, Bantha Tracks. Seven years and 23 issues later, the magazine rebranded to Star Wars Insider in 1994, where it has been home to interviews, essays, short fiction, and more about the galaxy far, far away for the last 30 years. The magazine has seen several publishers over its tenure, with the latest being Titan, who will shepherd the magazine to its end after a few more issues.

In the digital age, an accompanying franchise magazine is an increasing rarity, and time will tell just where some of the kinds of stories that called Insider home will go going forward, if we continue to get them. Time will tell if Star Wars‘ time in print is really an end, but it’s a shame that as the saga itself prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2027, Insider won’t be around to see it.
