Alamo Drafthouse Is Doing Godzilla Popcorn Buckets, and We’ve Got the Tease of the Next One (Exclusive)

When it comes to popcorn buckets, some things work, and some things don’t. Then, on a rare occasion, something is so beyond perfect, it transcends everything. The property, the snacking, the idea of popping corn itself. Toho’s official Godzilla popcorn bucket falls into that last category. It’s almost too wonderful for words.

But I’m a writer, so you’re going to get words. The beauty of the Godzilla popcorn bucket, which was designed by artist and kaiju superfan Scott Sugiuchi, is two-fold. For starters, it’s a mouth. What goes in your mouth? Food. What is popcorn? It’s food. See where we’re going here? But then there’s the opposite direction too. Godzilla can often shoot lasers, fire, or energy out of its mouth. If you tip the Godzilla popcorn bucket over, it, too, can shoot things out of its mouth. Mostly popcorn. But it’s still an added layer of awesome.

And, yes, io9 can exclusively reveal that this Godzilla popcorn bucket is just the first of many. In fact, we have a tease of the second one right here. Can you guess it?

What could the next popcorn bucket be? Hmmm. – Toho/Alamo

Is that Mothra? Rodan? Ghidorah? We can’t quite make it out. We’re kidding, of course; it’s Mechagodzilla.

The first popcorn bucket, based on the 1954 original film, is now available for pre-sale at Alamomart.com. The Mechagodzilla bucket will be available for pre-sale in March 2026, alongside a Godzilla hooded blanket and new Godzilla pint glass. In conjunction with that, the Alamo is also going to be running a full programming series of Japanese favorites from March through November 2026. They’ll be showing films like Terror of Mechagodzilla, Princess Mononoke, Rashomon, and more.

All of which starts, right now, with the perfect 1954 Godzilla popcorn bucket, which you can find here.
