Another ‘X-Men’ Star Swears They’re Not Back for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

One Piece season 3 has grabbed itself a Tony Award winner. Cary Elwes gives his one stipulation for coming back to the Saw franchise. Plus, Bewitched is getting the reboot treatment. To me, my Spoilers!

Io9 2025 Spoiler

Avengers: Doomsday

Speaking with Screen Rant, Simu Liu stated Avengers: Doomsday is “a love letter to the entire genre of superhero movies†saluting “all the misfits and the weirdos and the underdogs that grew up reading comic books and feeling like there was hope for them somehow.â€

I mean, there are just so many actors in it, and getting to work with those people as peers is really incredible because I grew up watching so many of them. It feels, in a lot of ways, like a love letter to the entire genre of superhero movies. And I think there’s something really fun about that. [Its] for all the misfits and the weirdos and the underdogs that grew up reading comic books and feeling like there was hope for them somehow – that it didn’t matter if they didn’t fit in – I think there’s just always a special place in my heart for that entire genre.

Meanwhile, Famke Janssen now states she’s “never ever†been asked to reprise her role as Jean Grey by Marvel or Disney in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Every time I do an interview, it’s mentioned. It’s interesting. I didn’t realize that was such a big part. Every interview I do, that will come up, and of everything I say, that is going to be the only thing that’s gonna be printed. I should be flattered, I suppose, that this character has resonated with people. It’s been so long, but it’s nice that people are still talking about her. I’m sure every single time there’s a new movie that they’re doing…it’ll come up again.

Saw XI

Cary Elwes also told The Direct he’d once again reprise his role as Dr. Lawrence Gordon if only James Wan asked him to.

I love James. I mean, if they want to bring Dr. Gordon back, that’s a decision above my pay grade.

Claire

Meanwhile, Deadline reports Krysten Ritter, Cameron Crovetti, Sarah Bolger, and Carrie-Anne Moss will star in Claire, the debut feature of James Wan’s longtime assistant, Tracy Kleeman. The story concerns the titular Claire (Ritter), “a struggling single mother battling addiction, as a malevolent creature that feeds on despair begins to terrorize her and her two sons. As her fight for sobriety deepens, the line between inner demons and real monsters, blurs, culminating in a harrowing battle for survival and redemption.â€

Man Vs

Deadline also reports Kyle Gallner has written and will star in Man Vs., a “monster thriller†directed by Radio Silence co-founder Justin Martinez. “Betrayed and left to die in an unforgiving Rocky Mountain winter,†the synopsis reads, “an injured gold rush miner (Gallner) must use everything at his disposal to survive the elements, wild animals and a looming, ancient danger far more terrifying than anything he could imagine.â€

Unspecified Live-Action Manga Projects

Chloé Zhao and Nicolas Gonda have begun Kodansha Studios, “a new global studio dedicated to creating premium, live-action movies and television series based on hit manga properties,†according to Deadline.

Kombucha

Elsewhere, a company’s complimentary break room kombucha is made from a mind-controlling fungus in the trailer for Kombucha.

One Piece

According to Deadline, Cole Escola has been cast as Bon Clay in the third season of One Piece. “Envisioned as non-binary,†the article states, Bon Clay “is as dangerous as they are dazzling—a theatrical assassin who turns combat into art.â€

Bewitched

Deadline additionally reports a dramatic, hour-long Bewitched reboot is now in development at Fox from Judalina Neira, Doug Robinson and Sony Pictures Television. Described as “heartfelt,†the new series will once again see Samantha and Darrin fall in love “at first sight†despite coming “from two wildly different worlds—he’s a human, she’s a witch. But in order to be together, they’ll have to navigate their disapproving parents, walk a tightrope of cultural clashes, and bridge the divides between their families and worlds.â€

Smiling Friends

Finally, the Smiling Friends rent a cabin in the woods in the trailer for next week’s episode.
