Emma Stone Is Indignant You Would Think She Dared to Play Miss Piggy in the New ‘Muppets’ Movie

The Muppets‘ comeback is exciting to contemplate, with a Disney+ special coming in February and a themed roller-coaster opening at Walt Disney World later this year. But the most exciting iron in the fire is the Miss Piggy-centric movie that Oscar-winning stars Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence dreamed up together, with Tony winner Cole Escola working on the script. Just don’t ask Stone if she’s going to be playing Miss Piggy, because there is only one Miss Piggy.

The project came up in an interview with W Magazine, in which Stone was cheekily asked if she’d be taking on the role of the most glamorous Muppet. Her answer was equally cheeky, but we like to imagine some of this faux rage was actually genuine.

“First of all, that is the biggest insult to Miss Piggy I’ve ever heard, and I will not have her name dragged through the mud like that. Why would I play a literal star? She’s the greatest,†Stone said. “No, of course I’m not playing Miss Piggy. And neither is Jen. We pale in comparison. Are you out of your mind? Miss Piggy is playing Miss Piggy. She would be storming out right now at the mere suggestion.â€

Good to know her priorities are in order! Unfortunately that’s just about the only thing we know for sure about the Miss Piggy movie, though we can imagine with this talent behind the camera, whatever emerges will be worth waiting for.

And if you’re impatient for more lavender accessories, karate chops, feather boas, third-person referencing oneself as “moi,†and frog lust in the meantime, Miss Piggy will be front and center alongside Sabrina Carpenter in The Muppet Show‘s big one-night-only return, February 4 on Disney+ and ABC.
