Hinge is taking a fairer approach to account banning

Hinge has decided that it won’t kick you off the app entirely anymore if just one thing on your profile breaks the rules. 

Instead of banning your entire account, Hinge will now flag and remove that specific issue, allowing you to address it first. Your profile will remain live but hidden from the discovery feed until you make the changes.

The company will also explain why it was flagged, sending an email and push notification, and you’ll also see a message in the app prompting you to update your profile. 

The types of content that are flagged include:

• Content that is offensive, pornographic, violent, or discriminatory.  
• Promotes illegal activities or causes harm to individuals.  
• Attempts to sell services or promote businesses.  
• Displays images or likenesses of others without their consent, or those of minors without the consent of a parent or guardian.  
• (And other similar reasons.)

The update is focused on making Hinge’s guidelines clearer and giving well-meaning users the opportunity to adjust their profiles while still keeping the platform safe, the company said.

“By giving daters the opportunity to update their content while remaining in good standing on Hinge, we’re delivering on our commitment to greater transparency and helping well-intentioned users better understand our policies, so they can stay focused on what matters most: making meaningful connections,” Jeff Dunn, chief risk officer at Hinge, stated to TechCrunch.

However, Hinge cautions that users who repeatedly violate the terms will face account bans.
