Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming take on Frankenstein has looked great in trailers (and looked great when I saw it in theaters) but one element has been largely shrouded in mystery: the monster itself. Yesterday Netflix teased a bit of the creature’s new look in a poster, and now we have a trailer that shows how he looks in action.
As you can see, this version of Frankenstein’s monster is very distinct, and a strong departure from the classic depiction most closely associated with the literary icon. The character is played by Jacob Elordi, best-known for Euphoria and Saltburn, and you also get to hear his version of the creature’s voice as he tells his side of the dark story. The design, meanwhile, comes courtesy lead creature designer Mike Hill, an artist and sculptor who previously worked with del Toro on projects like The Shape of Water, Nightmare Alley, and Cabinet of Curiosities.
You’ll be able to check out del Toro’s version of the story pretty soon. Frankenstein hits select theaters on October 17th, before streaming on Netflix on November 7th.
