Deadline reports a film adaptation of Stephen King’s “novella,†Rat, is now in development with Isaac Ezban attached to direct. The story concerns Drew Larson, a writer “cursed by his own ambition.†Each attempt at a novel has ended in disaster—illness, misfortune, or worse. Determined to break the cycle, he retreats to a desolate cabin in the Maine woods, convinced this time will be different. But as a violent storm traps him in isolation, Drew’s body falters and his mind begins to unravel. In the grip of fever and madness, a stranger appears—an uncanny visitor who promises salvation and success…for a price Drew can barely comprehend.â€

Deadline reports Jimmi Simpson has joined the cast of The Walking Dead: Dead City as an incoming “series regular†named Dillard. No further details on his character are available at this time.

Deadline also reports Meredith Averill has replaced Moira Walley-Beckett as showrunner on Fourth Wing, a TV series at Amazon based on Rebecca Yarros’ fantasy novels. The series concerns twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail as she “leaves the life of a scribe behind at her mother’s demand that she become a dragon rider. At the order of her mother, who is a general in the military of Navarre, Violet enters the brutal ranks of Basgiath War College, which trains up-and-coming riders through the Graduate or Die method.â€
