Illumination doesn’t just have another Super Mario movie hitting theaters this year. The Minions are back, and for their third solo movie, they’re making more trouble by calling in some big friends.
Directed by Pierre Coffin—who not only voices them, but directed both the first film and the Despicable Me trilogy from whence they came—Minions & Monsters sees a collection of the yellow guys trying to make a play at being Hollywood actors. They’re crushing it, but they’ve also got dreams of getting behind the camera and making a monster movie. But how to get a monster? Well, there’s always using a powerful arcane spellbook to summon one!
Said monster, who looks like a tiny Cthulu, isn’t quite what they’re looking for. The good news is, he’s got some bigger buddies of his own to call on to. As for the bad news…well, these new monsters are bigger and more suited to wreaking havoc, which they love doing. So it now falls on the Minions to save the world since they’re the ones who started all this, and maybe make the movie of their dreams along the way.
Look for (or run away from) Minions & Monsters to storm into theaters on July 1.
