There Can Only Be One First Look at the ‘Highlander’ Reboot

Hollywood’s talked about doing it for years and years, but Chad Stahelski’s finally gone and remade Highlander, and Henry Cavill provided a first look at his version of Connor MacLeod.

“Happy First Look,†wrote Cavill on Instagram. “This has been quite the journey for me, which I’ll tell you all about when the time is right, but it’s a special moment to be able to share this. I hope you enjoy.†In both pictures, he rocks a trench coat in what looks like a temple and a cathedral, with the second featuring him holding a sheathed katana.

While exact plot specifics are under wraps, this MacLeod is like prior incarnations in that he’s a 16th-century warrior born in the Scottish Highlands. After dying, he discovers he’s an immortal thanks to the Quickening and fights against others of his kind.

But according to Stahelski, there are some surprises in store, including a more martial arts-focused take on the action and a “different kind of myth†at play from previous installments.

We’ll have to wait for more information on Highlander to see what that all entails. The film’s cast includes Russell Crowe (as Connor’s mentor Ramirez), Drew McIntyre (as Connor’s brother), Djimon Honsou, Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista (as Connor’s nemesis the Kurgan), and Jeremy Irons (as a secondary villain).
